Jane Jacobs, one of the smartest urbanists, said that. This quote hangs above my desk and is a daily reminder of my vision: Creating cities that are inclusive, sustainable, and accessible for everyone, offering spaces to live, work, and play.
About me
Hi, I’m Laura and this is my Urban Solutions Community - welcome!
I actually come from a very small village but have always been fascinated with cities and how they work. As soon as I finished school, I moved to the biggest city in my country to explore its many neighbourhoods and quirks. Over the years, I developed a keen interest in urban solutions, from pocket parks to participatory budgeting, and documented as many as I could on my blog, parcitypatory.org.
In 2020, I discovered Solutions Journalism and knew that this was what I wanted to do: Writing about cities and the many incredible solutions we can find there. And often, it is the places you might not immediately think of when we talk about metropolises that have the best solutions.
The community
From Addis Ababa to Athens, from Mexico City to Melbourne, and from Lucknow to Lima, I want to hear and share your solutions. Get in touch to contribute an article or if you’d like to share your story and have me write it, or if you’d like to do an interview with me! My vision is to create a whole portfolio of urban solutions that will inspire planners, architects, mayors, citizens, and everyone else.
Beyond the articles, this is also a community to learn more about Urban Solutions Journalism - expect courses and workshops, as well as co-working sessions and a discussion space. More information on the Urban Solutions Community coming in summer 2025!
What to expect
The Urban Solutions Journal is free to read. The community will be a paid tier to come at a later point, but there will always be free articles here. You can also find them on https://parcitypatory.org/urban-solutions-journal/.
